КАМАZ Is Ready for Euro-5

24 February 2016

KAMAZ (a portfolio company of Rostech State Corporation) has done work aimed at transitioning to production of trucks with Euro-5 engines: not only new generation trucks have been certified but the entire range of serial commercial vehicles.

Euro-4 norms came into force in our country in 2010, while effective from 2016, the motor vehicle manufacturing plants were supposed to have switched to production of Euro 5 vehicles. Therefore, KAMAZ, in preparation for this switchover, carried out the corresponding activities. «We did the same thing also with respect to certification of vehicles powered by Euro-5 engines». All the necessary work was done: we obtained certification of not only the new generation trucks, i.e. КАМАZ-5490, КАМАZ-65206, КАМАZ-65207, but also for all the serial products: КАМАZ-4308, КАМАZ-6515 and others with diesel engines, – explained Yuri Rubnichik, Chief of Design Unit for Certification at the R & D Center. – Extension by two years of Euro-4 requirements means that KAMAZ is able to produce relatively inexpensive trucks of this class but if the customer should want to buy Euro-5 vehicles, we can offer him our certified product».

This year, KAMAZ intends to have Euro-5 NG vehicles certified. Next one to be certified is also the super heavy duty truck КАМАZ-6580. According to Ravil Khisanutdinov the necessary equipment and tooling have already been prepared. «At the end of last year, upon completion of production process design, test assemblies were performed for a number of KAMAZ-6520 and KAMAZ-3605 configurations, – recounted Khisamutdinov. – However, the start date for operation of Euro-5 emission standard compliant vehicles (we are talking about heavy duty trucks) was postponed until January 1-st 2018. A short delay is an additional chance for us to check everything, adjust and arrive at the appointed date forearmed and forewarned».
